What are Essential oils?

What are essential oils (Eos) and essential fatty acids (EFAs)? What are the differences between above two stuffs? People who come to me for health consulting normally have heard these two names but do not know the real meaning and difference in between, or even mix up the two.

Firstly, AMRCC defines “Essential” as a special term in nutrition science. The special term “essential nutrition”means that one can not produce it in human body and these nutritions are required for human growth and maintaining health. Without essential nutrition, human can not grow healthily.

NPRCC, Nutrition Physics Research Centre of Canada, follows my study and cagtegorize essential nutrition into 9 groups:

  1. Carbohydrates: Best sources are from plant such as whole grains and fruits.
  2. Lipids: Lipids in human body are also called fats. There are 3 popular forms of fats in human body – fatty acids, lipoprotein and glycerides.  The fat acids that are helpful to human health are unsaturated fatty acids (UFA) such as gamma linolenic acids (GLA), alpha linolenic acids (ALA or LNA), linoleic acids (LA) and oleic acids (OA). The only 2 essential fatty acids are alpha linolenic acids and linoleic acids. However, gamma linolenic acids (GLA) are most helpful to women health because it is an important source of prostaglandin 1 (PGE1), known as the precursor of estrogens and progestorones.
  3. Protein, peptides and amino acids
  4. Dietary Fibres
  5. Vitamins: These include water soluble and oil soluble vitamins. One must know that oil soluble but be inside unsaturated fat for improving health. Also, these oil base nutrition needs to be able to dissolve in water before participating in human metabolism. One of the common procedures to dissolve oil in water is called emulsification. In NPRCC, the common elusifiers for dissolving oils are fruits, whole grain fibres, carbohdrates such as steam rice and proteins from thick soups. After emulsification, you body can efficiently use these oil soluble nutrition.
  6. Dietary Minerals
  7. Food Enzymes
  8. Essential Oils
  9. Phyto Anti-Oxidants, or sometimes also called Phytochemicals: These elements are normally large chemical compounds. For example, Salicin is C13H18O7 which is about 285 times of Hydrogen weight (or to be more precise, 286.28 g mol−1). Lycopene is C40H56  , which is 536.87 g mol−1.
  10. Water

USFDA, WHO and Canadian CFIA follows 6 groups of nutrition which really can not provide enough information to help human in combating many chronic diseases because these 6 groups simply can not describe essential nutrition. I believe my study is most helpful tool to human health with this 9-group essential nutrition.

* Mr Kenn Lin defines 10 groups of essential nutrition 1999-2009. In 1999, Mr. Kenn Lin defined 8 groups of nutrition. On Oct 16, 2009, Mr. Lin added 9th group. It is a revolutionary definition that is believed to be the most completed definition of human essential nutrition.
